CORNERSTONE CHURCH

Methodist  / United Reformed

FORE STREET, TORPOINT, CORNWALL

ABOUT OUR CHURCH

Our first service in the new building in Fore Street was on 3rd May 1998. A procession of the congregation marched from the previous Cornerstone Church in the United Reformed Church building in Rowe Street. The architect John Wilks presented the key to Rev. Kendra Behn-Smith who unlocked the automatic doors. The building was filled to overflowing with members of the Church and the local Community plus representatives of Grant Bodies from whom funds had been received. The stained glass window was re-sited in memory of Ruth Widdicombe. Also re-sited in the new church was the Cross, which had been made from part of a pew from the URC. Chapel in Rowe Street and part of a pew from the Methodist Chapel prior to the gutting of the interior.

We are a lively and welcoming congregation. Come and join us. All are welcome. Our busiest service is on Sunday mornings at 10.30am, where the young and the not so young join together in worship. The children leave the service part way through to go to their various departments in Junior Church. The first Sunday in the month is Communion.

We have a Church Council which is composed of Stewards and Elders. Stewards are responsible for the administration of the Church and Elders are responsible for the Pastoral care of the Church. The elders role in the Church is, together with the guidance of the Pastoral Secretary, to support and help all Church members and Community roll members by visiting and caring and keeping in touch.

OUR HOPES AND AIMS

The Bible Society with our help has just conducted a review of the Church. We will be reviewing the outcome and implementing their ideas in the future.

We are anxious to improve our Christian Outreach into the Community of Torpoint.

We want to increase our outreach with young people. We have a need for leaders to put this into action.

We have ideas for a Young People's "Drop In" on a Saturday morning.

We are in need of people with musical ability, to play the organ and to help and encourage our young people in the music group in the service.

We have also re-launched the afternoon House Group.

We hope to focus all our energies on expanding Gods work in the Community
