The Torpoint Lady Singers  departed from their usual format and held

"A Truly Scrumptious Evening"

at The Council Chambers , Torpoint on Friday 20th September, 2013 at 7.30p.m.

A myriad of sparkling tea-lights, flowers on the tables, Cornish bunting, yellow and black mirroring the Ladies informal attire of yellow sweatshirts and black trousers, set the scene for a relaxing evening of  songs from the Choir, audience participation, poetry, humorous readings, a comedy number and last but not least 23 sumptuous desserts which would have gained the approval of Mary Berry, a feast for the eyes. Our guests were the very talented , gifted musicians, Charlie Letchford and John Stubberfield .

After the first half of the Concert a Truly Scrumptious Desert

The interval set aside for consumption of those enticing puddings radiated an air of supreme contentment as not one , two puddings were sampled but even three accompanied by Cornish clotted cream.

We were also provided with Tea or Coffee.

The Solo was a delight, Charlie accompanied herself on the piano and sang one of her own compositions

"You pull me Through" followed by

"I dreamed a dream" from Les Miserables.

   Having worked as a team
These Girls were keen to have a good time!

A high spot of the evening was the comedy number performed by Chris, Gill, Janet, Jennie, Brenda, Meggie and Lyn with the debonair Ken Trethewey as the driver of the makeshift car singing "Seven Little Girls", Ken had to Keep his Eyes on the Road Ahead.  John on Bass Guitar led the Choir and audience in this and a medley of songs "American Pie", "Always on my Mind" and "Delilah"

We even had time to draw the Raffle

A lovely surprise took place during the evening when Chris Trethewey, our Chairperson and Compere for the evening, presented a bouquet to Meggie and Alan Smith as they were celebrating their Golden Wedding the next day. An emotional moment for both of them as everyone sang "Congratulations" Meggie is a member of  The Torpoint Lady Singers.

We were delighted that the Mayor and Mayoress, Mike and Valerie Pearn were able to attend. Sue Westwell, the Choir Accompanist played for all the songs and a Medley, Sylvia Fraser our Musical Director had arranged the programme . An enjoyable evening with audience asking when the next one would be.

In January 1987, 8 Ladies, all living in Torpoint met and decided to form a Choir. They named themselves

"The Torpoint Lady Singers"

26 years later the number of members has increased to 35, some ladies travelling from other villages and towns, which is a tribute to the expertise and patience of our Musical Director and the exceptional quality of our accompanist.

Over the years the choir has raised over £40,000 for various charities. The choir serves two purposes; to enhance the joy of singing and love of music and to bring enjoyment to other people and, at the same time, raising money for worthwhile causes.

  Director of Music:      Sylvia Fraser

Accompanist TLS:       Sue WestWell
